What is Factur-X?

Factur-X is the hybrid e-invoicing format jointly developed by France and Germany. It combines a human-readable PDF with embedded structured XML data, enabling both visual reading and automated processing. This is the format chosen by France for its e-invoicing reform.

Mandatory Timeline

Factur-X offers several profiles depending on the level of data detail:

Basic

Basic information for accounting processing

EN 16931 (Basic WL)

Compliant with European standard EN 16931

Extended ⭐

Most complete profile, recommended for optimal automated processing

Technical Specifications

Factur-X is based on the PDF/A-3 standard with embedded XML data in UN/CEFACT CII format.
